We Leave Tomorrow!

Hello Friends and Family,

What a whirlwind this summer has been thus far!  We are amazed and a bit dizzy by all that has taken place over the past few months, but here we are, more or less ready to fly out to Dakar tomorrow.

Here's a brief timeline of the past couple months and what is to come-

TeachBeyond Orientation, 6/17-6/23:  In Wheaton, Illinois near Chicago.  It was a GREAT week of connecting with other families and individuals that will be working at different schools all over the world (we even met the PE teacher from our school, Dakar Academy...he will be Reid and Sam's teacher).  We gained a better sense of TeachBeyond's mission to use education worldwide to share the love of Jesus.  We received great teaching as well as practical instruction from people with a vast experience working overseas.  There was even a kid's program that helped our kids prepare as well!

End of June-mid-July:  Packing, packing, packing! Yard Sale, Craig's List, car sales!  And spending time with friends and family.

House closing 7/16.  We were AMAZED and grateful at how smooth everything went.

We left Winston-Salem on 7/18.  It was so hard to say goodbye to our home town for the past 18 years.

7/18-present:  Spending time with family at our parents' homes and at the beach.  Last minute packing and shopping.

8/1:  Flight from RDU to Dulles (Washington, DC), 10:15 am-11:15 am.  Depart Dulles at 5:30 pm.  We have an 8 hour direct flight to Dakar, Senegal.  We will land at 5:30 am local time on 8/2, which is 4 hours ahead of EST.  A staff member from the school will meet us there and help us get to our new home.

8/3:  Lindsay's 40th birthday!  And we start orientation at the school.

8/15:  First day of classes at Dakar Academy

Prayer requests:
  • Smooth travel.
  • Peace and awareness of God's presence with us in the midst of so much change.
  • Our parenting as we help our kids process all of this.
  • Preparation for our jobs-Tim teaching math, Lindsay doing healthcare for Dakar Academy students and teaching health.
  • Establishing new community of friends, church, etc.
  • Adjustment to living in a new culture, learning French.

We will plan to send a quick email once we arrive safely in Dakar and then hope to send a more formal newsletter around 9/1.

Much Love,

Tim & Lindsay
